Try going toe-to-toe with the warren pigmen and maybe you'll have a better perspective of what is truly fearsome.

Must we discuss the swine? I still have their wretched squealing ringing in my ears.

Setting aside the matter of abominations, surely it will all work out. I am given to understand she has been quite a prolific writer of late - certainly more so than mine, though at least I may now claim top priority. Yours shall come through for you too, I think.

Hullo, professor. Fair enough about the pigs, but they're a bit stuck in my thoughts lately. Their vomit still stains my poor coat.

You should see who's priority o'er in this madhouse! Some beastly man of a creature who would look quite at home in the fallen estate, and a walking corpse! Must I be second fiddle to such curs? It wrecks havoc on my ego, sweetness.

That I'll grant you. It may well be worse in that respect than the wine. If that is wine.

Having never met the former, I can only say that the latter at least seems civil and I've yet to see him menacing anything with a goblet; we could certainly find ourselves sharing space with worse. But no doubt you will win them all over in time regardless.

Oh, doubtless! You know my charms so well, Professor. Good to know you're already faffing about too, making friends with the gruesome types. I'd have expected nothing less.

I don't even want to think of the goblet bearers. Oh, what a terrible burn and an even worse stain! At least the pigmen's offal only takes a stern scrubbing to remove.

[Somewhat dryly.] I am nothing if not predictable.

Ah, but then one has the vast array of diseases in their flesh and fluids to reckon with as well. It is a wonder we haven't all contracted rabies by now. [As opposed to only some of them. Good thing symptomatic rabies is totally curable!]

Ugh, I spent two weeks in the infirmary after a scrap of that foul slime got up my nose. I think that mad thing in a wimple said I had three different humours imbalances. And then she lectured me for five hours on how the use of the brothel is unwise.

I might have preferred the sickness at that point.

[A sympathetic wince. He won't laugh.] I suppose we really can't tell those poor townsfolk all the gory details of what goes on on that land, but honestly. That is just unprofessional.

Then again, I am not entirely convinced that those people are properly certified.

They're all as batty as the Caretaker, methinks. Dwelling that close to the estate for this long can't be good for their own humours.

Now I must fret about what the ladies in the brothel see on a regular basis. Besides us, I mean.
