Are you disappointed that neither I nor my brother were mentioned in The Phantom Pain?

It's canon that I was with Frank in America during that time. Do you really need more information on that?

The world is destined to be born anew years later thanks to Sunny and FOXALIVE. So, for now, choose to witness that time in history... and just play.

[His voice is soft, always soft, because Naomi's death is something still fresh, both in how it weighs in his mind and how it hurt him.] No... not the bible, really. Though it's a text that does deal with the End of the World.

Were you happy there? [Another pause, and then, he adds:] ... And, how have you been?

Are you not going to tell me which one? [Was someone being a tease?]

Happy? ... I suppose happier than other years of my life. [Constantly worrying about her brother while he was away robbed her of many peaceful nights.]

[Hunter sensed this might be a new Hal so she wasn't as honest with this one as she was with ones she was closer to.] I've been well enough. How are you?

[It seems it is. He doesn't seem as nervous as other times you might remember, though. Sheepish:] Ah.. But, that would require admitting I wasn't entirely truthful with you, back when we first talked at the NOMAD.

[Where are all these Hals coming from? But yeah, this one is new, though the mun is no stranger to MGS rpgs.] I've been well enough. [He admits:] Tired, though. Exhausted. And right now... It's all too probable I'm from your future.

[She wasn't exactly truthful with him then either.]

I could say the same thing about myself.

[Naomi pushed her hair behind her ear again.]

My future? [Naomi looks a bit shocked. As far as she knew, her future ended when she did, on the cold hard floor of Shadow Moses.] When are you from?

Late in 2014. My mission has been over for a while. [He sits down, invites you to do the same.] It has been hard to keep myself busy after that, you know. And stagnation does me no good.

[Hal attempts another smile as a peace offer.] I guess we're even. Still, I think it won't hurt now if I confess what I lied on. Ah... [He chuckes a little, even if there's some melancholy permeating as well.] See, the quote is from a manga I used to like, when I was little more like a child. But-- I actually never stopped being an anime otaku.

I did want to impress you, though. [And why is he even saying all this? You're being so awkward, Hal. But he would have liked the chance to interact with Naomi in a more normal way. And he had thought it was not to be.]

I see. [She sits down with him, wondering if she should bring up Snake. He might have already passed away by that time. The woman doesn't bring it up.] One Hal I met said he had begun to write a novel during that time.

[The woman chuckled herself. Here she thought it would be something actually important.] You did have that wallpaper on one of your computers.

You didn't have to. [Dr. Hunter smiled a little this time.] I could tell what kind of person you were by the way Sunny looked up to you.

[Still hasn't. And they are still trying to come up with solutions, but it's out of Hal's hands right now, and he's been antsy. Hal tilts his head at the new information, considering it.] ... You know, that's actually a good idea right there. I did made a promise--

[But then he sees you smiling and, Naomi, you should have known how difficult it is for him to let go of the departed. And he was not expecting the compliment either. Nervous now, he averts his eyes, attempts to joke:] I should have planed my ruse better, then.

[You still have not confirmed if he's from your future or not, he's going on a limb here. Truthful:] I have missed you. What happened-- shouldn't have, you know. But I do miss you.

[Being missed. That was not something she heard too often. The brunette began to remember how much Hal was crying while she was dying. How could he cry so much over her then?]

... I'm sorry I hurt you, Hal.

[She knew her actions were the right ones to take, although she did regret some of the consequences of it. Sunny was able to create FOXALIVE and she had confidence Snake would fulfill his roles in relation to The Patriots and Big Boss. There was nothing else to live for. Naomi truly believed that then. Talking with others, since then, had made her regret parts of her life even more.]

[Naomi reaches out and places her fingers onto Hal's thumb, not sure if he would want to be touched.]

[On the other side, what you have just said is not something Hal has gotten to hear... ever. So he lets you touch him-- even holds your hand in return. He wants to reassure you, and accept what must have been a very difficult apology:] It's alright now.

Sometimes I wish you would've said something. We would have helped all the same, Sunny the most of us. But, it's good to see you now... and get talk about it. If only, this is a very good reason to have come here today. Thank you, Naomi.

[Naomi holds it with no resistance. She had almost forgotten how warm Hal's hands were.]

[She smiles and means it.]
